'Hope' is the Thing with Feathers
A short film by TY students from Presentation Secondary Girl’s School
In early 2020 TY students from Presentation Secondary Girl’s School in Ballyphehane worked with artist Dervla Baker and Glucksman education team Tadhg Crowley and Lucia Taeubler on the creation of an original short film.
Taking Emily Dickinson’s poem ‘Hope’ is the Thing with Feathers as the starting point, the students explored ideas of wellbeing, mental health and empowerment. The project provided the students with the opportunity to create an original artwork that conveys their thoughts on these complex issues. Additionally, the students learned about script writing, storyboarding, directing, and editing and had the opportunity to work collaboratively under the guidance of experienced arts professionals.
The film was selected to be screened at the annual First Cut! Youth Film Festival in Youghal in March 2020.
