Once Upon a Place
A creative project exploring children’s sense of place
Laureate na nÓg Eoin Colfer initiated Once upon a Place in 2015 to bring stories to children all over Ireland with a special emphasis on fantastic places: extraordinary settings in which to stage very special and memorable storytelling events that would spark children’s imaginations and bring the magic of story and of books to young people in an experiential way.
To compliment the Once upon a Place storytelling events, the Glucksman designed a creative project that invited children from local school and community groups to visit the museum and to work with artists to create artworks that responded to their sense of place both imaginative and real.
An exhibition of the children’s artworks was presented to the public in March 2016 and the exhibition was launched with a private reading for participants and their families by Eoin Colfer.
Contributing groups - children in Direct Provision centres in Cork; Wallaroo Playschool; Gaelscoil Mhainistir Na Corann, Midleton; Newmarket Girls National School; Gaelscoil Ui Drisceoil, Glanmire; and participants from the Glucksman’s Family Sunday programme.
