Seeds of Change
Seeds of Change is a climate action focused art project developed with young people in Bantry for West Cork Literary Festival.
In Spring 2025, the Glucksman invited students from Cappabue National School, Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí, Gaelscoil Bheanntraí and St. Brendan’s National School to participate in a project that raised awareness of sustainable futures through art. Each school was loaned an artwork from the University College Cork Art Collection through our Art Library programme.
The selected artworks by Amber Broughton, James L. Hayes, Fiona Kelly and Garrett Phelan explore ways in which we might better nurture and care for our planet. The artworks are themselves seeds of change, planting ideas, climate action prompts and creative activities into the local schools. Using toolkits and learning resources developed by the Glucksman, students considered what our future may look like, the promotion of environmental issues and the urgency of protecting endangered species.
Their creative responses were placed on display in Bantry during the West Cork Literary Festival in St. Brendan's School Hall, in tandem with an art trail that presented the original artworks in venues across the town.
