The Hide Suite is a set of 28 archival pigment prints each featuring a detailed drawing of a bird observed by the artist in the coastal area of Fingal, Co. Dublin. The individual prints are titled with the English andLatin names of the birds who are depicted alongside technical equipment, a recurring motif in Phelan’s practice that extends to sound, drawing and installation.
These prints are one element of The Hide Project, a public art project that also consists of a website, radio station and a publicly accessible bird hide, an observation point situated along the Rogerstown Estuary which is renowned for its magnificent ecology and bird life. This functional monument is free to visit and “honours those who have given of their time for the projection, preservation and conservation of the local environment, its flora and its fauna”.
