As part of the Memory of Place project, artist Deirdre Frost worked with a community of older people from Cork City Partnership, Knocknaheeny, to explore the changing infrastructure of Cork and to reflect on the group's memories and experiences of the city. North Gate Bridge is one of the oldest landmarks in Cork city centre. The North Gate Bridge and South Gate Bridges have allowed entrance to the city from as far back as Medieval times. The bridge held particular significance for the community group as it was the location where the northside of the city ended and the city centre began.
Deirdre Frost’s painting presents a stripped back North Gate Bridge where one can see into the buildings that house objects and people that appeared in the many stories the community shared with the artist.
