Alice Maher at Brookfield Health Sciences Complex

The Glucksman invited to hang work at entrance to former Watson building.

Following the decision by UCC to rescind the name of the Watson Building in the Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, the Glucksman was invited to hang a work of art at the entrance pending the renaming of the building.

We are pleased to showcase an important piece from the UCC Art Collection, a large scale drawing by artist Alice Maher from her Thicket series. This work explores ideas of childhood through a young girl’s discovery of the world around her, drawing inspiration from Irish mythology, folklore and the artist’s own upbringing in rural Tipperary.

A former student at Crawford College of Art & Design in Cork, Maher has exhibited her work internationally and was Ireland’s representative at the 22 Bienal de São Paulo. The University College Cork Art Collection is managed by the Glucksman in accordance with the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland and is displayed in sites across the UCC campus.
