Bealtaine Festival - The Art Library

As part of Bealtaine Festival 2025, Dara McGrath’s Hidden Histories portraits will be loaned to Mahon Community Development Project through our Art Library programme.

Hidden Histories was a community art project to mark 100 years of Irish women's right to vote funded by Cork City Council Arts Office.Through a series of workshops and interviews at the Glucksman, artist Dara McGrath explored the progression of women’s rights since 1918 and the role of women in shaping Cork city in collaboration with older people from Mahon Community Development Project. The resulting photographic portraits celebrate the storyteller as well as the story being told and were originally presented alongside a documentary film as part of the 2018 Bealtaine Festival.

The Glucksman is pleased to give the older people involved in this project the opportunity to loan these artworks and to see them displayed in the very space where the portraits were originally taken back in 2018, bringing the project full circle.

The Art Library is a loan collection of artworks that is available to schools, community hubs and healthcare settings across Ireland. It is supported by a Touring Award from the Arts Council of Ireland.
