The Big Picture
In Spring 2017, the Glucksman partnered with Children’s Books Ireland and Laureate na nÓg PJ Lynch on a creative project that unleashed the power of storytelling in the visual arts.
In The Big Picture workshops held at the Glucksman, children worked with artists to create collaborative artworks by drawing on ideas of adventure and travel in contemporary Irish storybooks and classic tales. In these specially designed workshops, the children learned different approaches to art making and experimented with a variety of materials to produce work for public display.
Over 300 children took part and The Big Picture exhibition showcased the artworks made by participating schools, community groups and children living in Direct Provision. The exhibition was launched by PJ Lynch at a special event in the museum in March 2017.
Featuring work by children in Direct Provision centres in Cork City; Blarney NS; Cloghroe/Kerrypike NS; Crosshaven Boys; Glasheen Boys NS; Kealkill NS; Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh, Bishopstown Girls; St. Finbarres NS; St. Josephs Boys, The Mardyke; St. Michaels Blackrock; Cloghroe Scouts; and participants of the Glucksman Family Sundays programme.
