Learn more about the artists and artworks on display at the Glucksman with our monthly Reading Group.

Drawing on texts and essays across theory, fiction, biography, and poetry, we invite you to learn more about and discuss selected artworks from our current exhibition, Panorama Europa.

Over the course of an hour, you will be invited to read a text aloud together* and discuss its themes, ideas, and context in relation to select artworks. This month, we will be looking at the work of Michael Canning and reading from his selected text Silence: In the Age of Noise by Erling Kagge.

In Silence: In the Age of Noise, Norwegian explorer Erling Kagge presents a powerful, meditative antidote to our modern world of digital distraction and constant sensory overload. Drawing on his extreme experiences which include a historic 50-day solo trek across Antarctica, Kagge argues that true silence is not merely the absence of sound. Instead, it is a deep, internal quality of mind that anyone can cultivate anywhere.

You do not need to prepare anything in advance, and no specialist knowledge is required.
