Little Interview
Every month we ask the same set of cultural questions to one of our artistic, academic or civic collaborators.
Over the last number of years, we have interviewed diverse members of the Glucksman community - artists, academics, staff members, guests, audiences and workshop participants. The responses are funny, inspiring, revealing and always a great read.
This month, we hear from Rafaela Anastasopoulou, who has been interning in the Glucksman for the past few weeks as part of the MA in Museum Studies at University College Cork!
What are you reading?
I am currently reading The Forger’s Spell by Edward Dolnick. It's been fascinating to reflect on ideas about authenticity and the stories we construct around artworks.
Favourite museum?
My favourite museum is the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens, Greece. During my undergraduate years at the School of Fine Arts it became a key point of reference for me and deeply influenced me.
Best performance?
Although I haven’t experienced her work live, I find Marina Abramović’s performances very powerful, especially in the way they explore endurance and relationship between artist and audience.
Most treasured possession? My two cats, I miss them a lot now that I study abroad.
Work(s) of art that inspire you? I find the work of Olivier Suire Verley very inspiring, particularly the mood in his paintings and the way he depicts figures. He was my primary influence for most of my paintings 3 years ago.
A lightbulb moment?
That I didn’t necessarily want to create art myself, but rather to work with it, supporting it, presenting it and helping create meaningful experiences around it.
Guilty pleasure? Energy drinks!
What would you like to be doing right now? Ideally, I’d be by the sea, relaxing. I am really looking forward to summer!
