Samir Mahmood
Samir Mahmood was born in Pakistan and migrated to Ireland as a medical doctor in 2008, where he completed an MA and a PhD in Health Promotion from National University of Ireland at Galway. He changed his career to visual arts in 2016 and received the Academic Achievement and the Mary Lavelle Burke Bursary Awards from the Atlantic Technological University in 2020.
His practice stems from research on experiences of migration, citizenship, identity and spirituality. He focuses on themes of body, transformation, transcendence and cultures surrounding queer existence.The work produced through this engagement comprises of digital photo-collages, painting, objects, video and mixed media compositions.
