Michael Gurhy (b. 1982)
Michael Gurhy is a Cork-born, London-based artist whose work explores the erotic and emotional fragments of identity through myth, memory, and the queer body. Drawing on psychoanalysis, art history, and the symbolic resonance of materials, his practice spans painting, sculpture, photography, video, and digital processes. Gurhy's artwork is part of the UCC Art Collection.
He studied Fine Art at Crawford College of Art & Design, Cork (BA, 2005), and went on to complete an MA at Central Saint Martins (2010) and an MRes in Fine Art at the Royal College of Art, London (2024).
He has exhibited internationally, with recent presentations including Fragments of the Future at Hangar Gallery, London (2024), William Blake and Conflict Beyond Borders and Forms at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (2024), Visions at the Nunnery Gallery, London (2022), and What is Eros? at MoMus Experimental Centre, Thessaloniki (2019). In Ireland, his work has been exhibited across a range of galleries and institutions, including Crawford Art Gallery and Sirius Arts Centre.
