Butter Exchange and Reed Band: Bandfield concert for Mardyke 300

2019 marks the 300th anniversary of the construction of the public recreation area of the Mardyke in Cork city. To mark this unique moment in the city’s history, the Glucksman invited artist Deirdre Breen to create a large scale artwork at the site of the original bandstand in front of the UCC Ceremonial Gates on Western Road. As part of Bandfield, a free programme of music events are planned for the coming months that celebrate the Mardyke’s long history as a civic space and venue for outdoor performances.

The Cork Butter Exchange and Reed Band will bring their dynamic big band sound to Fitzgerald's Park on Thursday 29 August for the second in our series of free concerts.

The Band known to the people of Cork affectionally as Da Buttera is a community based Wind Band with a focus on involvement in local community events and providing the people of Cork with free musical tuition to anyone willing to join the Band. The Band plays at many events through out the year such as parades, festivals, regattas, open air recitals, sacred events and of course Christmas Carols. Part of the fabric and culture of Cork for the past 138 years, you can find more about the band's history on their website.

Bandfield and the Mardyke 300 celebrations are supported by Cork City Council.
